Specify Consulting was founded in October 2021 by Chris Gath, born from a simple but firm conviction: that the Australian Building Products and Design sector deserved a recruitment partner who truly understood it.
After more than 15 years working directly within the industry, Chris had seen first-hand how generic recruitment approaches consistently fell short, delivering candidates who looked right on paper but weren’t the right long-term fit for the businesses, cultures, and careers they were stepping into. He knew the sector intimately. He knew its people, its nuances, and what genuine success looked like within it. And he saw a clear gap for something better.
Specify was built to fill that gap not as a transactional placement service, but as a genuine long-term partner to the businesses and candidates it works with. With a specialist focus across sales roles, Specify brings a depth of industry knowledge, a rigorous approach to assessment, and a personal investment in business outcomes that goes well beyond the placement itself.

Chris Gath, originally from England, founded Specify Consulting after moving to Australia for love. He embraced the beach lifestyle and gradually found his calling in the Australian Building Products and Design sector through a recruitment role.
Over 15 years, he developed a passion for the industry, recognising the need for a better recruitment approach. In October 2021, Chris established Specify Consulting to provide specialised knowledge and partnership-based relationships in recruitment. The company operates nationally with offices in Sydney and Central Coast. Outside of work, Chris enjoys Muay Thai, marathon running, and nature, reflecting his disciplined approach to recruitment.
